4 Easy Ways to Improve the Quality of Your Blog Content

October 11, 2012 7:10 pm

So many blogs exist on the web covering nearly any topic imaginable, which makes it increasingly difficult to get what you have to say noticed. It’s so easy to find ourselves overwhelmed by the complexity of what’s out there, trying to one-up everyone and everything. But sometimes what we really need to do to make an impact is simply do the little things right. Here are five easy ways to improve the quality of your blog content.

Be Concise

Depending on the type of blog that you write, the reasons readers stumble upon or return to your site could reach far and wide. But regardless of the reason, it probably isn’t because they have nothing better to do. The truth is that we all want readers to return to our blogs and we all want them to be happy to do so. Achieving this requires giving readers what they come for without wasting their time. It’s so easy to go on and on about this topic or that, when what we should really be doing is getting to the point and moving on.

Break it Up

The days of reading from cover to cover are long gone, which means the days of reading blog posts from start to finish are something we are never likely to see. I don’t care how valuable your content is or how worthy your posts are of being read, if your readers can’t find what they are looking for with a quick scroll down the page, they aren’t going to stick around. Splitting up the content of your blog posts with headings and bulleted lists helps the important stuff stick out and allows people to find what they are looking for without having to put in all the work of wading through never-ending paragraphs.

Spend Time on Titles

Blog post titles influence everything from your search engine rankings to the number of people who click through to your posts to the percentage of visitors who stay on your site and more. So many people make the mistake of spending all this time on a great post, just to slap a title on it without any thought or effort. If you expect to get steady, quality traffic from a blog post, coming up with an effective title should take just as much effort as your post did to create.

Let Your Voice Shine Through

Last but not least, making your blog posts stand out is about giving your readers not only what they are looking for, but also something that will provide it in an entertaining way. Anyone can write an opinion, a tutorial, or some quick tips. But doing it with style is what will put you and your blog ahead of the curb.
